Do you want to contribute to making wheat and rye products celiac safe? We are looking for an outgoing, motivated, and energetic postdoctoral researcher for testing this hypothesis by means of human celiac tissue culture and intervention studies.
Information about the division and the research group The Division of Food and Nutrition Science at the Department of Biology and Biological Engineering covers a broad range of research topics with focus on nutritional solutions for disease prevention by studies on the molecular, cellular, and whole-body level. The division also aims to promote high food quality, minimize losses throughout the food production chain and to optimize alternative sources for production of nutrients.
The postdoctoral researcher will be a member of The Molecular Nutrition group/Scheers lab. Our research focus is within the area of molecular nutrition and to investigate effects on health and disease from specific metal compounds, proteins or other molecules that we absorb from the diet or ingest by supplementation. The goal is to understand cellular mechanisms on the intestinal level and to translate our results into real life. We work on all levels to investigate hypothesis-driven questions - modelling, wet lab, human cell models and human intervention studies.
Major responsibilities Your major responsibility as postdoc within this research group is to:
- Culture and conduct experiments on intestinal biopsies - Maintenance of human cell cultures - Pick up tissue samples at the local hospital (on short notice) - Running ELISA, Western blot and other molecular biological methods - Meeting and handling study participants - Handling of blood samples.
The position may also include teaching on undergraduate and master's levels as well as supervising master's and/or PhD students to a certain extent. The position is meritorious for future research duties within academia as well as industry/the public sector.
Contract terms Full-time temporary employment. The position is limited to one year with a possible extension to a maximum of two years (1+1).
Qualifications To qualify for the position of postdoc, you must have a doctoral degree in human biology/ biochemistry/immunology or similar.
You also need to be:
-Proficient in culturing of epithelial cells and tissue cultures -Proficient in standard moelcular biological methods such as ELISA and Western blot.
It is meritorious if you have experience of working with celiac patient samples and drawing blood samples. The position requires sound verbal and written communication skills in English. Swedish is not a requirement but Chalmers offers Swedish courses.
We offer Chalmers offers a cultivating and inspiring working environment in the coastal city of Gothenburg. Read more about working at Chalmers and our benefits for employees.
Chalmers aims to actively improve our gender balance. We work broadly with equality projects, for example the GENIE Initiative on gender equality for excellence. Equality and diversity are substantial foundations in all activities at Chalmers.
