Description: The licentiate project aims to develop methods and protocols for evaluation of wheat and barley germplasm for diseases of economic importance in Sweden. Initially the project will aim towards net blotch disease of barley and septoria tritici blotch in wheat. Germplasm evaluation will be conducted both under greenhouse and field conditions. The outcome of this project will contribute towards strengthening of plant breeding for food crops in order to increase the innovation potential and food security. The research student will work with researchers involved in putting traits into usable forms by understanding germplasm diversity and genetics. The work will also be in close collaboration with the stakeholders.
Qualifications: You are qualified to be admitted to postgraduate education if you have a MSc degree or four years full-time studies of which at least one year at advanced level. For this position, your degree / studies must have a focus on plant pathology, plant breeding, genetics or equivalent. You should have advanced level skills in plant pathology and have earlier worked with cereal diseases. Previous experience in culturing pathogen, plant inoculation and evaluating germplasm for disease resistance is required. Knowledge in statistics and experience in R is required. You should have the ability to work independently as well as in a team, and be motivated and have excellent English language skills.
